Listen up guys. If you'd like to improve your mood, memory, muscles and more, forget expensive and potentially risky supplements. Just head to your local supermarket. You'll find foods that help prevent age related health conditions. As an added bonus, they all taste great and are easy to incorporate into your diet.
SARDINES FOR HEART HEALTH. Ounce for ounce, sardines are one of the best sources for heart healthy omega-3 fatty acids and are extremely low in contaminants such as mercury and PCB's. They are also eco-triendly, packed with protein, and low in saturated fat. Canned versions are inexpensive, portable, and don't require refrigeration. sardines are great on salads or on whole grain crackers.
BRAZIL NUTS FOR PROSTATE HEALTH. Brazil nuts are one of the richest food sources of selenium, a mineral that may reduce a man's risk of developing prostate cancer. Selenium may be toxic if taken in daily doses of more than 400 micrograms (mcg). But one Brazil nut has about 100 mcg. One or two mixed with other nuts each day will give you just the right amount.
EDAMAME FOR MOOD. Mood is affected by a combination of factors, including brain chemistry, life events, and the foods you eat. Of these, only diet is under your control. Fiber rich carbohydrates such as oats and Edamame ( Edamame is a preparation of baby soybeans in the pod. The pods are boiled in water together with condiments such as salt.) help prevent mood fluctuations by keeping your blood sugar levels steady. Edamame also contain protein, and omega-3 fatty acids, which have been shown to help combat depression. You can buy frozen edamame pods at health food stores.
SESAME SEEDS FOR SEX DRIVE. They are inexpensive, safe, and don't require a prescription. They are also very rich in the amino acid arginine, which is involved in synthesizing nitric oxide, a compound that enhances blood flow through the arteries and, AHEM, to various other male body parts. Toasted sesame seeds add a nice nutty tyaste to salads, cooked grains, or cereal. You cqn also enjoy them in Hummus, which is made with ground chick peas and sesame seed paste ( tahini ).
BLUEBERRIES FOR MEMORY. These days, it seems you can't say enogh about the health benefits of blueberries. But did you know that much of their power lies in their color? That deep blue hue is caused by flavonoids, natural compounds that protect the brains memory carrying cells (neurons) from the negative effects of oxidation and inflammation. Buy firm fleshed berries or, off season, try frozen..
LENTILS FOR ENERGY. Rich in fiber and protein, both of which are digested slowly, lentils provide a steady source of energy. They are also a good source of several B vitamins essential to energy production, as well as iron, which helps red blood cells carry oxygen. Make up a big batch of lentil soup and you will have a hearty lunch for days.
QUESTION: What physical parameters define colors such as blue, yellow, and red??
However different people perceive colors, color names refer to bands of wavelengths ( measured in nanometers ) within the range of visible light, a narrow region of the electromagnetic spectrum. ( Sunlight comprises the whole spectrum. ) Humans can see from violet ( starting around 400 nm ) through indigo ( a band centering around 445 nm ) blue ( around 475 nm ) green ( around 510 nm ) yellow ( around 570 nm ) orange ( around 590 nm ) and red ( ending around 700 nm ) Light with wavelengths shorter than violet is called " ultraviolet." Light with wavelengths longer than red is called " infrared."
QUESTION: It's hard to believe that there were ever enough plants and animals on Earth to create the huge volume of fossil fuels that we are now consuming hourly. Even though the material accumulated over millions of years, the residue one might expect from a sizable dinosaur might be a pint of crude oil. How is it possible that this much fuel was ever produced??
The geologic process began more than 3 billion years ago. When one considers that all this matter may be used in only a few hundred years, just a thin sliver of time, one might find it hard to believe that we could use so much so fast.
QUESTION: How many nuts or acorns does a squirrel need to eat to replace all of the calories that it burns scurrying around the yard.??
A one pound squirrel requires about 125 calories daily. That means it needs the equivalent of four whole walnuts, one each for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a midnight snack. If you love squirrels, visit Lafayette Park, across the street from the White House. They run the place. But if you don't love squirrels, avoid camping in India. You might encounter one of that country's giant squirrels, which are the size of cats and can leap 15 feet.
European researchers said they discovered a batch of three " super Earths." orbiting a nearby star, and two other solar systems with small planets as well. They said their findings suggest that Earth like planets may be very common.
" Does every single star harbor planets and, if yes, how many?" asked Michel Mayor of Switzerlands Geneva Observatory. " We may not yet know the answer but we are making huge progress towards it." The trio of planets orbit a star slightly less massive than our Sun, 42 light years away towards the southern Doradus and Pictor constellations. A light year is the distance light can travel in one year at a speed of 186,000 miles a second, or about 6 trillion miles. ( Thats about 252 trillion miles. How many zero's in that number??)
The planets are bigger than Earth, one is 4.2 times the mass, one is 6.7 times and the third is 9.4 times. They orbit their star at extremely rapid speeds, one whizzing around in just four days, compared with Earth's 365 days, one taking 10 days and the slowest taking 20 days. Mayor and colleagues used the High Accuracy Radial velocity Planet Searcher or HARPS, a telescope at La Silla observatory in Chile to find the planets.
More than 270 so called exoplanets have been found. Most are giants, resembling Jupiter or Saturn. Smaller planets closer to the size of Earth are far more difficult to spot. None can be imaged directly at such distances but can be spotted indirectly using radio waves or in the case of HARPS, spectrographic measurements. As a planet orbits, it makes the star wobble very slightly and this can be measured. With the advent of much more precise instruments such as the HARPS spectrograph, we can now discover smaller planets, with masses between 2 and 10 times the Earth's mass.
The analysis of all the stars studied with HARPS shows that about one third of all solar like stars have either super-Earth or Neptune like planets with orbital periods shorter than 50 days.
LEXINGTON, KY. ------ Thoroughbred racetracks in the U.S. reported more than three horse deaths a day last year and 5,000 since 2003, and the vast majority were put down after suffering devastating injuries on the track, according to the Associated Press survey.
Countless other deaths went unreported because of lax record keeping. The catastrophic breakdown of filly Eight Belles at the Kentuchy Derby last month made the fragility of a half-ton horse vivid for the millions watching, but the AP found that such injuries occur regularly in every racing state. Tracks in California and New York, which rank first and sixth in thoroughbred races, combine to average more than one thoroughbred death for every day of the year.
Questions about breeding, medications, synthetic surfaces versus dirt and other safety issues have dogged the industry for some time, and a congressional panel has asked key players in the sport to testify this week about its direction, particularly the influence of steroids.
Arkansas, Michigan, Nebraska said their organizations don't track fatalities at all, and only one of Florida's three main thoroughbred tracks provided numbers. There were wide differences among the other states in what types of deaths are monitored and how far back the records go. Nobody really knows how big of a problem it is, they just know its a big problem.
When a horse breaks a leg, let alone two, as Eight Belles did, often the only choice is to euthanize the animal. A thoroughbred's bones are thinner than most breeds. Usually its not possible for the horse to lie down for long periods because that could disrupt the blood flow to the arteries in the lower limb, causing an extremely painful hoof infection called laminitis. Barbaro, who won the Kentucky Derby in 2006, broke down in the Preakness and was euthanized with laminitis several months later after a gallant effort to save him.
Despite the regularity of such breakdowns and the money involved in the sport, no one is certain how many horses are lethally injected on the nations tracks each year. Larry Bramlage, the on-call veterinarian at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky, said fatality numbers don't seem to be dropping, despite major medical advancements. That suggests racing injuries are becoming more frequent because vets are already pulling the most injury prone horses before post time. We're able to pick them up better with digital X-rays, bone scans and MRI's, which give us the information we need to take those horses out of training. Despite that fact, we're not denting the total number of deaths.
After the gruesome breakdown of Eight Belles, the Jockey Club created a national panel to examine safety. Among the topics being reviewed are track surfaces, medications (steroids), the use of the whip by riders and whether thoroughbreds are becoming less durable because they are being bred to emphasize speed rather than stamina.. Those that do get hurt maybe get hurt worse because of their speed and size. A good big horse will outrun a good little horse, and they can be more fragile because their legs and joints have to hold a lot more.
Of particular interest to Congress is the influence of steroids, which were legal this spring in most racing states including Kentucky, Maryland and New York. Rep. Ed Whitfield, R-Ky, said steroids should be banned, not regulated, because he questions whether the sport has the ability to police itself. " There are enough people I have great respect for who say this industry is really beginning to be in trouble." Whitfield said.

5 YEAR OLD DEAD, 2 PEOPLE MISSING AFTER BOAT FLIPS.
"THERE'S ONE MORE KID THAT WILL NEVER GO TO SCHOOL.
NEVER GET TO FALL IN LOVE, NEVER GET TO BE COOL."
Neil Young, " Rockin' in the free world."
Thursday afternoon at 6:30 pm I heard on my scanner that there had been a boating accident on the Nisqually River. There were 5 people in the boat.. 3 adults and 2 children ages 5 and 9...
The location given was just a few miles from my home, so I decided to drive over there. The police had set up a search/staging area at the end of Sixth avenue just off Old Pacific Highway. There were police boats going down the river on one side and coming back up the other side, searching..
At about 9:15 pm. they found the 5 year old boys dead body on the bank of the river. The 9 year old brother and an adult male were still missing. The mother of the two children and the operator of the boat had made it to shore. None of the five people was wearing a life jacket.
Lt. Chris Mealy announced at 10 pm that the boat's operator had been arrested on suspicion of homocide by watercraft for allegedly operating the boat while under the influence of alcohol. A preliminary breath test administered Thursday night measured 0.193, more than twice the legal limit for operating a boat.
Police suspended their search for the missing boaters shortly before midnight and planned to resume at first light. Dive teams still hadn't found the two missing boaters by Friday evening.
THIS IS HOW THEY MET. The mother of the two children and an adult male were having a picnic on the bank of the Nisqually River when the operator of the boat came by and splashed water on them, and later offered to take them for a ride. The mother and her male companion and two children decided to get on this boat and go for a ride. They had never met the driver and did not know him.? The mother brought a bottle of brandy on board and the adults were drinking the brandy plus some beer that was in a cooler.
The boat operator began driving the boat recklessly, spinning the boat in tight circles and spraying water. At one point they were going down the river backwards. The boat capsized when the operator tried to make a u-turn against the current to avoid a log-jam in the middle of the river. The boat lost control against the current and struck the log-jam with force, took on water and capsized..
HERE'S THE PART OF THE STORY THAT MAKES ME SICK..
The mother of the two children is married to a Fort Lewis soldier who is serving in Iraq. He is the father of the two boys and has been given emergency leave and is headed back to Fort Lewis from Iraq. I think the mother may be in grave danger when the father gets home.
Helluva Father's Day gift.
HERE'S ANOTHER WONDERFUL STORY ABOUT GOOD PARENTING.??
RALEIGH, N. C. ---- A couple accussed of tying their 13 year old son to a tree for two nights to punish him for disobedience have been charged with murder in his death..
The 41 year old father told a deputy that the child was being disobedient and was forced to sleep outside while tied to a tree. The teenager was released in the morning but again tied up that night for bad behavior.
The boy was left tied to the tree until the following afternoon when his stepmother found him unresponsive. Authorities believe the boy was bound with plastic ties and possibly other kinds of material..
Temperatures in the area rose to above 90 degrees on Thursday afternoon, with a low of 73. Authorities would not discuss any details on the cause of death, saying an autopsy was being conducted.
